Community Support

A Capital Contribution Fund of at least $10 million to support local projects will be made available to the final host community. For this the Government will ask community members to put forward project ideas.

The Government has deliberately not sought to specify the nature or range of possible projects that may be eligible to recognise all communities are unique with different priorities and needs.

A committee with representatives from the State Government and at least three members resident in that state who have expertise in education, infrastructure and health will advise the Minister when administering the fund.

Other community support will include significant supporting infrastructure needed to support the facility, such as access to a stable and reliable communication system, including mobile phone reception and broadband internet. Roads may need to be upgraded to a suitable load standard.

A separate Community Benefit Programme will grant money to potential host communities which have progressed to the technical assessment stage.
